Nightmares of the Deep: The Cursed Heart stands out from the glut of hidden object adventure games because, everything it does, it does extremely well. At times it feels like you're watching a summer blockbuster movie because it is such a high quality production--the voice acting, visuals, scenery, story development and more. This is not a scary horror so much as it is a supernaturally-bent thriller with a pirate theme. While the theme might not be completely new to you, the presentation will be. Don't pass it off as "another" anything. It's not. Here are some other highlights: * You can choose to play MAHJONG instead of doing a Hidden Object Search Scene. This means, you don't ever have to do any of the normal H.O.S. if you don't want to. This feature alone makes The Cursed Heart original. *H.O.S. scenes are clear and well-composed. They include "extra step" puzzles--items you need to reconstruct or somehow change before you can pick them up. *Minigames vary in type and include performing certain tasks, reassembling items, navigating a puzzle maze, swapping tiles, and so on. Some are familiar puzzles, some are more original, and some are really challenging. All are fun! *The focus is on adventuring and it's easy to feel immersed in the environment. The minigames don't take away from that. *You earn coins by completing certain puzzles--you need 20 of them--each coin allows you to see another part of the backstory, Captain Remmington's earlier life and love affair. *There's plenty of very entertaining story scenes to fully round out the story and the experience. *The ending is played out to completion and is a satisfying resolution. No cliff hangers or abrupt cut offs. *The bonus chapter is a different--yet related--story, which is also very interesting. *Another collector's edition bonus is the ability to replay hidden object scenes and mahjong games. *If you don't skip, it's about 6 hours long for the regular story plus
I absolutely loved this game. Great graphics, good story, puzzles could be worked out logically, HOS were clear. The objects you found were used quite quickly in the game so you didn't end up with and inventory that you'd forgotten half the things in there! I bought this game and thoroughly enjoyed it.
(Based on demo trial) Nightmares from the Deep certainly made my timbers shiver and gave me the Davies. A good CE to add to anyone's collection with alot going on and so much to do. After a long anticipated wait, this Pirate game has arrived and yes it did impress me with its great visual animations, crisp graphics and very good V/O and sound effects. As for the story, nothing really outstanding but regardless of the plot, enjoyable gaming expereince for all those who love HOG adventure games. As 'Mom' (which by the way may just put off some male gamers out there), my daughter has been kidnapped by a ruthless 'dead' pirate who has taken her to his hideout on Skull Island. As I am off to save her, I need to solve many puzzles, collect inventory items from many HOG scenes and naturally play the odd mini-games along the way. In actuality, the gameplay is your basic HOG Adventure with interactive HOS with alot of backtracking along the way. There is nothing really exceptional but I did enjoy the adventure and am anxious to see how it will progress. Option menu offers you two modes of game play, custom cursor and wide screen options. Game features include a journal with a list of objectives, a map which if played in casual mode, will give you information as to what needs to be done and ofcourse a SG to help you out. HOG scenes are interactive, somewhat crowded but not too difficult, As a bonus, you have a choice to play Mahjong tiles rather than search for items. My only complaint was that I found the Mahjong games too easy to play. Although the game offers you alot of things to do, one thing I found lacking was the level of challenge that you would see in games like D?re Grove or the Seventh Skull. I found the game rather easy to play and did not have to consult the SG during the entire demo trial. There are moments that made me jump with things popping up and I have to admit, some of the effects were very well done. I just wished that the game had continuity because I found that sometimes the story seemed to lag in
This game immediately hooked me, so I bought it as soon as the demo was over. And I'm glad I did. This is a great adventure with well done voice-overs and wonderful graphics. A mother is on a quest to save her daughter from an undead pirate. The pirate wants to use her daughter's body for his lover's soul. The storyline is excellent, and the things you do fit well with the adventure. There is a map that shows you where you are in the ghost ship, and where you still have tasks to do. The hints are good, and recharge quickly. The HOS are easy to moderate. However, I'm not fond of HOS, so I'm glad there is an option to play Mah Jong instead. The puzzles are moderately difficult. This game is NOT linear-- you can go where you want to. Buy this one, and you'll be glad you did.
This game has got it all, it's truly fantastic. The graphics are very beautiful and you move around the different areas of the ship and island so smoothly that it feels like you're actually there. The story was wonderful, so very detailed and really does make you feel for the characters. Sound/music was very good, and quite scary and appropriate to each scene. And the voiceovers for each character was perfectly done, with no glitches or the sound being too fast or too slow. It really felt like these were the true characters and not some bad actors trying to sound convincing ;) There are plenty of hidden object scenes for those you enjoy those and also plenty of tasks you have to perform/solve throughout the game. All in all this game is just plain wonderful, a great adventure and a great hidden object game!
At first I was a little leery about this game then I decided to give it a try and I'm glad that I did.Loved the graphics from the opening sequence,to the narration, voice overs and the storyline.I was in awe in one of the scenes in which there's this corpes, you give it money and it goes into this CG in which you see it's decaying nails and you see the grime in them. That was really cool. The level of the challenges were not too hard or to easy(In my opinion anyways) I did like that you have the option to play Mahjong or the regular HO which it's not bad,it's a nice and different way to finish a challenge.Fun factor of this game is high you'll definitely be entertained from the get go.To sumarize:Excellent game, graphics, storyline and challenges. This game has it all and it's definitely worth of it's CE price.
AWESOME game. A definite buy, you won't be displeased. GREAT graphics and story line. I had a feeling I would purchase this game before I even played it, and I was correct. This will definitely be one of 2012's TOP games. This is probably my favorite game of the year so far, and it will be hard to top, in my opinion. I've only played the demo, and I can not wait to play the complete game once it finishes downloading.
I read the reviews yesterday - there were only 8 of them early in the morning. I purchased the game just from reading the reviews (without playing the demo) and I DON'T EVEN LIKE PIRATE GAMES! I had a blast playing this one. It was so likeable and different from other HOGs. Great storyline, fun characters and I loved the mini games within the game. When i first started playing the game and it started in the museum, I thought oh-oh! this game is gonna suck! then when the pirate ship appeared, it rocked! My favorite part was watching the chest-guarding-dead-troll grab my coin with his dead fingers and place it in it's appropriate coin slot and tell me a portion of the "love story" I finished the game that afternoon, letting all housework sit, and had a blast. If you are tired of the same ole' HOGs, purchase this one. It's a lot of fun.....
I went to the top games and saw this one. I downloaded it after reading the reviews and was not disappointed. Great story line and fun to play.
Very entertaining , Just finshed the demo. Will buy this one.Simple to navigate, epic cut scenes of movie quailty.Great story line.Cool puzzles, Have fun!!!
