Great Game

I loved this game. Couldn't wait to see where I was going next. Got stuck a few times because I was up too late playing. The scenery was right on track with the story and changed with the mood. The puzzles were interesting and a nice change from the math puzzles usually found. I think any one would like it.

liked this one

played casual. diary, you are at a city that has been taken over by an evil one and the mayor will not not let the mine workers quit or the evil one will kill everyone and they die anyway due to the volcano erupting and the earthquake comes. your job is to solve this and try to restore the city. hint/skip charge fairly fast. great graphics, HO scenes are pretty easy to see the items. interactive ho scenes. sequel....i can see one.

City of ash

Beautiful game and original storyline

Good story - short game!! :)

Review of the complete game Played the Collector?s Edition of this game. With 3 hours playtime (in the 2nd mode) a rather short but fun game. This game ends conclusively. The CE?s bonus-chapter is an additional story. Extras given in the CE are written below? In search for another ?Dark Dimension? your way leads you to Phoenix Hill, Ca., which was destroyed in 1956 after the nearby volcano errupted? Facts: Scenes are a mixture of real and drawn graphics; very clear and detailed. You may choose from 3 modes (can be changed during the game), 6 chapters to play, direction giving hint, inventory can be locked, interactive map with task-list. Dozens of hidden object scenes, most of them played twice: First it is an interactive HOS from list, the 2nd time you look for items from a silhouette-list. There are also a lot of minigames, some brandnew, from easy to hard to solve!! Collector?s Edition Extras: Music, concept-art, wallpapers, bonus-chapter and a collection of 15 golden animals, hidden in the maingame and also in the bonus-chapter. It?s a quite good game, but way too short in my opinion?

better than the other dark dimension games

Graphics are good. Music is good and has voice over. 3 modes of play Have played all the dark dimension games and this one to me is the best but still not up to todays standards for great games. Has hint button that works pretty good Has a map The HOS are pretty much easy with not much interaction. The puzzles are good, some hard and some easy. The game is really pretty easy to play. Not too much running around and has a straight flow. Find an item and use it. I think it is a pretty simple game. Looks like fun. Just not the 5 star but still a good game to play.

PREFER TO THE SE TO CE

Graphics are very good - I'm thrilled to finally play a game that brightens my day after playing so many drab games lately. Like that game has a control especially for voice volume - although I didn't use it because I think the voice overs are nice and natural sounding. Has an interactive map showing the current location and where tasks need to be done. Story holds my interest, as do the other Dark Dimension games. Very nice production values. Since the game is short, you might consider buying the SE instead of the CE.

Great SE! This Dark Dimension is Not So Dark!

Not being a fan of the first two, I found this game an improvement and the demo left me wondering what Dark Dimension is at work in Phoenix Hills. The previous games were too drab and dreary for me, so the bright colours this time were a pleasant surprise. A definite purchase for me. With protester Audrey Owen pitted against her father (the Mayor) attempting to stop mining operations threatening the town, something goes wrong, a volcano erupts, and a mystery begs to be solved. Straightforward HOPA gameplay with the usual features, including interactive map, directional hint, and diary that provides insight into Dark Dimension history. The HOS are a bit cluttered and confusing, an attempt at interactivity and challenge that doesn?t quite work. The puzzles are familiar but fun, and the game is easy to navigate. For me visuals and sound are always important for gaming pleasure. While the graphics are a bit unusual in terms of style, they are detailed and clear with vibrant colour. This makes a tragic and abandoned town unexpectedly beautiful to behold. The music will appeal to individual taste, as will the cutscenes and voice overs. For me, these were positive features that enhance the mood, move the story along, and contribute a sense of urgency and realism. This is important as the game is not overly challenging. There are unexpected moments that are odd but pleasing, like clicking on a poster that triggers a cutscene of the riot depicted, instead of just an article to read. With fewer HOS and a bit more of a wow factor, this game could have been a winner. Nevertheless, I did enjoy it. While missing the mark totally as a CE, I liked the game enough to recommend the SE. Whether you are a fan of the series or come to this game with fresh eyes, it?s definitely worth a look!

Volcanoes & Ghosts Join Forces Against You!

BASED ON DEMO I like this game better than the previous Dark Dimensions games, even though I rated them at 4 stars too. This game is definitely less frustrating for me. I like, too, the STORY, of a volcanic eruption sparking a Dark Dimension ? a place where the SOULS of the victims of tragedy cannot move on. CUT SCENES are done VERY WELL, and create a great atmosphere. The MUSIC is GOOD, the AMBIENT noise ADDS to the atmosphere, and the VOICEOVERS are EXCELLENT. The ASH PEOPLE are really well drawn and the fiery ghost is GREAT. VOLCANIC TREMORS certainly increase the heart rate. Other GRAPHICS are WELL DONE though not outstanding in any way. The LOCATIONS are a bit different from the usual which was nice. And it was nice to get out of the rain for a change. Objects are clear, and easy enough to find. This game has more HO SCENES than the others in this series, which is fine by me! Although others might disagree. They come in two types ? INTERACTIVE LISTS and SILHOUETTES (NOT progressive ones, just ?find something shaped like this?). The PUZZLES took up most of the rest of the game, and seemed to me to be EASIER than before. This was also good by me. Getting about is not difficult, with an INTERACTIVE JUMP MAP that indicates ACTIVE TASKS and a DIRECTIONAL HINT. There?s also a DIARY that tracks your activities. I?m intrigued by the notion that we might find out more about our family, which have so far not got much attention in this series, and I definitely want to know what?s with the fiery dude. This looks to me to be yet another excellent game in this series. It?s a serious THRILLER and I?m looking forward to the change of pace from all the (excellent) fantasy games.

Phoenix Hill is now a City of Ashes!

I am a big fan of the Dark Dimension series and I purchased this game in the CE and I should have waited for this version. It is a short game compared to other games but it has a good story, and they have done a great job with the graphics and the vibe is done so well that you will feel like you are alone and walking through a city crumbling and full of ashes. The golden animals that you collect in the CE are still there but will simply disappear when you click on them. I like the fact that there are several tasks and inventory items to find in each scene, there is just the right mixture of HOS and mini games which are enjoyable to do and won't leave you wanting to pull your hair out waiting for the skip button. There is a very good map for traveling and it will have an exclamation indicating an active task so you probably won't need to use a hint button. A good story and a fun game, enjoy!

Good game. On par with the other Dark Dimension games

This review is based on the completed game. While I agree with other reviewers that this game is rather short, it is still fun. If you have played the two previous games, you will know what to expect from this one. The first game had an all-encompassing fog encase a silent city, brought on by demonic forces surrounding a young woman's death. The second game was a Michigan town deserted due to an earthquake, again with demonic forces in play that centered around a wax museum owner with a tragic accident that happened to her daughter. This one is about a volcanic eruption that destroys a town around a gold mine. The mayor and his daughter are at odds over closing the mine, but a demonic presence is forcing the father to keep the mine open. The daughter dies in the struggle, and a dark dimension forms. If you liked the first two games, you will like this one. The HO's are more interactive, and the puzzles are easier. I don't play with sound, so I cannot comment on it. The art work was the same as the other two games, and is quite good.
